New Delhi (Centre) has granted a three month extension to validity of the FCRA registration of non government organisation pending till sept 30. In a public notice on Saturday the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said the validity of registration of those FCRA entities whose validity has been extended up to 30th of September till date of disposal of renewal application.

The MHA has recently sought from the NGOs registered under the FCRA details of its movable and immovable assets created by them using foreign grants. As per the FCRA laws, donations given by Indian Origin persons who have foreign citizenships and donate money will be considered foreign money but this is not the case with NRIs as they still hold Indian citizenship.
This is the tenth such extension given by the government to Non governmental organisations following passing of FCRA amendment act 2020. Several of the prominent NGOs have lost FCRA licences in the latest round of scrutiny while 183 new FCRA licences were issued to NGOs this year.
