HC warns SpiceJet of Contempt Action for not returning jet engines


On 2nd July, the delhi high court has issued an contemt notice to SpiceJet and its officers and directors for failing to return 2 boeing aircraft and three aircraft engines  to its lessor which the HC directed the company to do in an order dated 27.5.24. The HC had also added that it would drop the contempt proceedings if the airline complied by its order by July 8. 



A Division Bench led by Justice Rajiv Shakdher warned that if order not complied with, the court shall take necessary steps to ground the aircrafts using those engines. In SpiceJet’s defence, its counsel Sr, Advocate Amit Sibal said that the company had returned the aircraft frames and they needed more time to replace the engines as they are in service. The counsel for SpiceJet also mentioned that they come to an agreement with some other of its engine lessors. The agreement involved SpiceJet paying over a $1 Million and a $65000, monthly fee as ward lease rental for those engines in service.
